Before you make the decision, please consider the benefits…

Before you make the decision of whether to have FCCLA or not, please consider the benefits of offering a CTSO (Career and Technical Student Organization) as part of your FACS department.  By having a chapter, you are able to use the nationally-developed program materials, resources and assessments which are free or at a reasonable one-time fee. These programs have all sorts of activities and “how to” sections to help you implement the new pathways, and are linked to 21st century skills, SCANS skills, integrated academics and learning styles. Each national program has a subject focus and involves students in their learning to increase engagement and community involvement. FCCLA members can be called upon to promote the benefits of FACS when curriculum decisions are being considered and budget cuts are discussed. The “embedded” chapter refers to conducting all business, projects, etc within the classroom so that out of school time is kept to a minimum. Taking part in meetings and leadership opportunities outside of the school day are optional.  FCCLA materials may only be used if you have an affiliated chapter.  The cost to the school is nothing with an affiliated chapter with a minimum of 9 members…see the Kansas FCCLA Advisor Charlotte Smith for more information at csmith@ksde.org .
